  • Chase.com - is this your idea of transparent marketing?

This ad popped up on the Chase.com site this morning. Overlayed is what looks like internal codes from their customer segmention model. Either this is shown in error, or, Chase is taking the notion of transparent marketing a little too literally.

  • I'm confused.

I've not heard someone say "I'm confused" for a while now. I find it to be a confrontational phrase and I dislike it. I intepret it as someone trying to make a point along the lines of "I'm smarter than you, and what you just said doesn't make any sense to me" . Aware...

  • The Joker gets an ID Card

Ever since I heard of the UK government's plans for an ID card system, I've felt for a number of reasons that it wouldn't work and that there would be 'unintended consequences', including making it easier for cybercriminals to commit large-scale fraud. My primary concern has been...

  • Starbucks everywhere

Frank has convinced me... Starbucks is everywhere . The other day I drove up to one of the drive-thu Starbucks, ordered my usual grande latte, paid for it, left a tip and drove off. About a mile later I turned around to actually get the coffee.

  • DVD region encoding insanity

On my recent trip to London I got snagged by the 'intergrated' region encoding 'feature' on my laptop DVD drive. Let me explain: I bought 2 DVDs in the UK which the DVD drive barfed at. No error message, warning or anything, it just didn't work. So I looked up the Matshita DVD driver...

  • Why I don't miss London

Finally back to work after a short break that included a visit to London and Antwerp. In many ways, London is still its good old self and I always enjoy coming back for a quick visit to see family and friends and immerse myself in the vibrancy and creative energy of the city. However, there are many...

  • Powerless

When I wrote on Thursday night that there was storm raging, I wasn't joking. Here's a pic courtesy of the appropriately named Slam team : I saw a fair amount of damage driving around yesterday while trying to find a hot meal. Richard Sprague saw some carnage too . There was plenty , what a mess...

  • A storm over my head.

Redmond, WA, 10:07pm PST. It's raining. It's windy, I mean really windy. The sound of the wind as it swirls and whips around the house is very eery (I don't think the plywood roof was a good idea). The lightning, ooh, I can almost smell it. The lights in the house are flickering, more regularly...

  • 10 Random Thoughts # 5. Not Blogging About Blogging.

10 Random Thoughts, # 5. Not Blogging About Blogging. Some people seem to get very irritated when they come across a blog post where someone is blogging about blogging. Some of them then blog a post about how blogging about blogging irritates them so. What I'd like to know is do the people who blog...
